Location: Marche-en-Famenne, Belgium
Deadline: 16/01/2012
Start: 01/05/2012
End: 01/05/2013

The Association Mic-ados is a non-profit organisation recognised by the ministry of youth welfare of the federation Wallonie-Bruxelles as “service d’Aide en Milieu Ouvert (AMO)”. We can intervene for every child or youngster who is in danger or in difficulties. Every person younger than 18 years old who needs help, advice or just someone to talk to can demand our interventions. We also answer to requests from every person, parent or family member who encounters difficulties in the education or the relationship with a child. In daily life we are working with children from 0 to 18 years as well as with their families to accompany and support them in difficult situations. The majority of our public can be considered as living under precarious circumstances. Many young people who frequent our association live in situations of poverty and have to face different educational and social difficulties. Our work consists of three complementary axes:- Individual support: we talk with and accompany the young people to sort out their difficult situations (family dissension, early school leave, unwanted pregnancy…); and /or help them with administrative tasks.- Collective projects: all the year round we develop activities in the district, organise a support for homework and take part in many local events. We also organise holiday camps. - Community projects: this work is taking place in long terms together with partners with the aim to improve the living environment of young people, the accessibility of services… For this reason we set up a training programme for activity leaders. On occasion we organise also conferences or participative workshops about themes such as addiction or children’s rights which are open to the local population. During the interactions with the young people we ensure them professional secrecy. To meet them we also come to their homes. We wish to be able to respond to their demands (without working on short deadlines) and support the initiatives of the young people who frequent our service. A team of nine staff members (educators, social assistants, a criminologist and a secretary) are in charge of the realization of the missions of the association. We work in 9 municipalities (rural or semi-rural areas): Marche, Hotton, Rendeux, La Roche, Erezée, Durbuy, Nassogne, Tenneville and Manhay.
Tasks
This project should permit the volunteer to qualify themselves in the social youth work while immersing in the Belgian culture. The volunteer will be mainly involved in the tasks of animation and will always be accompanied by a permanent worker. In his daily work, the volunteer EVS will be involved in the collective projects of the associations: homework support for the children from 6 to 12 years; animation of children from 6 to 12 years in the villages Barveaux and La Roche; organization of a family day (with the parents of the animated children); animation of the holiday camps in summer; animation of occasional projects with adolescents. During his project the volunteer will have the possibility to participate at a leaders training for kids camps. He/She can also take part in conferences and team meetings. The future volunteer can develop a personal project which is in relation to the mission and the target group of Mic-Ados if he/she wishes to. The volunteer will also be given the opportunity to attend a French course of several hours a week so that the volunteer can develop his/her language skills.
Criteria
We do not require any specific competences or knowledge of the future volunteer. It would be an advantage to feel comfortable with animating children. The volunteer have to prove a certificate of good conduct or a similar document which permits him or her to work with children. Given the public we are working with he or she has to have a dignified and spotless conduct especially regarding the consummation of alcohol and other substances.
Procedure
Applications (motivation letter and CV) - if possible in French - should be sent to evs@compagnonsbatisseurs.be until the 16th of January.

Vacancy for EVS
Volunteer in Hungary
Contact person: Mónika
Szakács

Organisation: Szimbiózis
Alapítvány

Location: Miskolc,
Hungary
Deadline: 08/01/2012
Start: 04/06/2012
End: 28/02/2013

Our foundation caters for mentally handicapped adults. Volunteers coming
to us can take part in many different, interesting activities. They can
help us on our farm, participate in the daily life of our day-care and
residential centres and join in and develop free-time activities for the
clients. Our main motivation behind participating in this programme is to
encourage social integration between young people from across Europe and
people living with different disabilities. We are glad to accept their
help on our farm where they can deal with both vegetable growing and
animal keeping. In our day-care centre they can help in handicraft
workshops and participate in different therapy programmes, as well as in
different leisure time activities. We regularly organise professional and
non-professional meetings where we are glad to welcome our volunteers.
During common programmes volunteers can learn how to communicate and
cooperate with people living with mental disabilities in practice. We are
opened to intercultural partnerships. We are looking forward to meeting
our volunteers. We would like to give the opportunity for our volunteers
to introduce their own countries and cultures in front of an audience. It
is very important for us that volunteers can keep in contact with people
from their home countries during their stay here. We would like the
opportunity to show and teach them everything they need to know about
Hungary, the Hungarian culture and Hungarian people. Hopefully providing a
highly positive experience which they will be able to use all of their
lives. We will do our best to ensure that they will have a very good time
here. The Symbiosis Foundation was established in 1999. It operates in
Miskolc and the wider region of Northern Hungary. The mission of the
Symbiosis Foundation is to help the lives of people with intellectual
disabilities and their family members through support and training,
employment and social integration. The Symbiosis Foundation provides
services like: a day-care centre, a living centre, a rehabilitation farm
and a kitchen. The characteristic of the Symbiosis Foundation is the fact
that it provides institutional, transit and supported employment services.
In addition, the foundation provides training courses to provide the
necessary skills to find a job and has several rehabilitation programmes.
Tasks
We work with adults with a broad spectrum of mental
disabilities within two living centres catering for up to 24 young people and a
day-care centre. The volunteers can help out in the workshops where they
produce souvenirs like candles, paper materials and carpets. They can work in
our Baráthegy farm (www.barathegy.com)
in the organic garden, preparing goats’ cheese and in the stable. The
foundation has a kitchen where our own cultured vegetables are processed. The
volunteers can also take part in the personal development programme of the
clients, examples of activities include dance and music therapy The foundation
plays an active role in the social field not only in the region but also at a
country wide and European level, we often organize meetings for professionals
and have guests from other countries. The volunteers help us both in the
preparation of these meetings and during the events. The volunteers can help us
in different activities and besides work they also have a unique role in the
development of the lives of our young people. The disabled folk have hardly any
opportunity to get to know other young people of their age and through the
volunteers they are “forced” to communicate in a different way than with the
other people and establish new friendships which creates a massive opportunity
for personal development and even learn some words in a different language. Our
volunteers gained a lot of experience here and they not only learnt in a
regular way but could also improve their personal skills and capacities. We
provide Hungarian lessons twice a week, they take part in the EVS clubs and
other local events organized by the regional office of the national agency not
only in Miskolc but also in other places in the county. Through our conferences
and meeting they can get to know a lot of people acting it the social field. We
are open to new initiatives, new ideas coming from the volunteers and help them
to manage their “own projects”.

Criteria
We are looking for open-minded volunteers who can
accommodate easily, who are open to new challenges and who are socially
sensitive and helpful. The volunteers should feel empathy towards disabled
people and have a skill to cooperate and work with them. Our main aim is to
develop our young people, to give useful experience to the volunteers, make
intercultural connections between Hungarian youngsters and youngsters coming
from a different European country. Not necessary, but it is an advantage, if
you have: - Sending organization - Some information/experience with people who
have special needs - Little knowledge of Hungarian

Procedure
We are looking for three volunteers from 06/2012-02/2013.
Deadline for application is 8/January. Please, send your detailed CV with a
photo and a motivation letter to europe@szimbiozis.net. Staff
team make the first selection till 12/January and all candidates get response
of the decision. In case of too many candidates a telephone/skpe interview is
also possible for a second round of selection.

Vacancy for EVS
Volunteer in Austria

Host: ROTOR: http://rotor.mur.at/
Location: Graz, Austria
Deadline: 04/01/2012
Start: 03/09/2012
End: 31/08/2013

ROTOR has continuously been hosting EVS volunteers since 2008, always for
a period of 12 months
ROTOR is an association for contemporary art based in Graz, Austria, and
was founded in 1999. Most of the association's activities take place in
Graz but it participates in, organises or co-organises projects in Styria,
Austria and many other European countries. There is also a particularly
strong linkage to the Southeast European area.

Contemporary visual art is always the starting point for our programmes,
with an emphasis on art production that expressly deals with social,
political, economical and ecological issues of our time. A strong focus on
cooperation has always been an essential element of the ROTOR philosophy,
as well as acting in networks. Moreover, the public space is a highly
significant site for ROTOR, as a space where we can make art happen in
seeking to leave behind the confines of the art space and actively engage
people with art and extend our audience.

The main fields of activity of ROTOR are:
- conceiving and organising exhibitions (in our own space and in others)
- artistic interventions in public space
- Artist-in-Residence programmes (inviting artists from other countries to
spend some time in Graz, and enabling Austrian artists to spend time
abroad).
- publishing books
- organising conferences and lectures
- organising a monthly artist meetings to support the networks of the
local scene
- keeping and expanding an archive about artists from Austria &
Southeastern Europe
Tasks
What we can offer in terms of Service and learning
opportunities: - ROTOR constantly organises several projects at a time (f.ex.
exhibitions, conferences, interventions in public space, publishing books,
etc.). It’s a great place to learn how to conceive, organise and carry out
projects of all kind – from the beginning to the end. This will thus support
the volunteers’ sense of initiative and entrepreneurship. - EVS volunteers will
meet many different interesting people – artists, activists, cultural workers,
… and will thus be able to improve their social and civic competence - the
volunteers will be in contact with many artworks and will thus learn about
contemporary art, about material and technical aspects of artworks, about their
handling, and so on. - the volunteers will be provided with a computer and will
be handling technical devices (needed for the exhibition) – and can thus
improve their digital competence - sometimes the volunteers are involved in the
creation and the handling of a budget for a certain project, which supports
mathematical competence - ROTOR provides language courses for non-Germans
speaking volunteers as well as for German-speaking volunteers who are
interested in learning or improving another language - by keeping worksheets
where the volunteers enter the projects they are working on and by reflecting
on what they have done together with the mentor and how they have learnt, we
try to support their learning to learn competence Role of the volunteers and
activities: We have two working places for the volunteers: one in the
exhibition room where they are the first person one meets when entering , or
they sit in the back office together with the team. The volunteers support us
in all our projects, for example by: - taking over small organisatorical parts
of bigger projects (i.e. communicating with artists and organisations, doing
researches, booking travels/accomodation, …) - helping to set up exhibitions
(not only hanging up pictures, but also preparing installations, setting up
videoworks,…) - giving information to visitors - helping to keep our webpages
updated - supporting the team in all kinds of daily tasks - attending to our
archive

Host: WIKI Youth Point
Birkfeld, 2011-AT-33: http://www.myspace.com/jugendtreffbirkfeld
Location: Birkfeld,
Austria
Deadline: 04/01/2012
Start: 01/05/2012
End: 31/10/2012

The organisation WIKI operates in the field of child care to youth work.
There are 10 Youth Points in the region of Styria. The main idea behind
the Youth Points is to provide recreational activities, promote active
communication and interaction through a variety of approaches (new media,
sports, creativity, music and so on). One of the key aims is to show the
youngsters recreational activities that do not involve violence, crime,
drugs or alcohol.
The EVS hosting Youth Point is located in Birkfeld, a town located in a
rural area with a population of 1750 inhabitants. The Youth Point offers
great facilities for the youngsters – reaching from table football,
billiard, games, internet, cooking, discussions about job/drug
prevention/sexuality… There are two more Youth Points in the surroundings:
Strallegg and Miesenbach. The opening hours are during the week in the
afternoon. Youngsters in the age range of 12 – 19 years attend the Youth
Point. The volunteer’s main working place will be in Birkfeld, he/she can get
to know the Youth Points in the surroundings as the same team attends all
youth centres in the region.
The volunteer will live in Graz or Birkfeld. Graz is the second largest
city in Austria with about 270.000 inhabitants. Being a university town
many young people are living here and so it offers interesting cultural,
social and sportive day and night activities. The transfer between Graz
and Birkfeld (distance ca. 50 km) takes about one hour. The volunteer will
be given a lift by the members of the team who live in Graz or she/he can
go by public transport. For someone who loves nature, sports and a rural
surrounding Birkfeld is quite a little paradise (http://www.birkfeld.at)
Have a look at the Youth Point Birkfeld: http://www.myspace.com/jugendtreffbirkfeld
Tasks
Volunteers will be involved in arranging and planning
workshops and excursions, gender specific work, multicultural education,
networking, interactive media pedagogy, educational leisure activities, and
assisting young people with job applications and homework. The volunteer has
the opportunity to develop his/her own projects, and will be fully supported by
the team. However the volunteer will not have the same responsibilities as the
qualified employees. The volunteer should not become a “viewer” but an active
part of the activities. The volunteer should like working and speaking with
young people about their problems, wishes and ideas. He/ she should be able to
give help to organize activities. In ideal case the volunteer plans an own
project and can bring in own ideas. So, if he/she is interested in sports
he/she could organize sport activities like a soccer cup or a skate event, a
basketball workshop or a dance training. The volunteer could take a supporting
role in developing new perspectives for the future for the children/youngsters.
The volunteer will bring new aspects into our daily life by contributing a
foreign language (his/her mother's tongue) and his/her personal intercultural
background, which will enrich the lives of the children and young people.
Criteria
Due to the target group in the Youth Point we prefer
volunteers over 20 years. The volunteer should be flexible and show interest and
motivation for this project. It is very important that the volunteer is
open-minded, outgoing, patient, friendly and communicative in the work with
youngsters. You should not be afraid to stay with a group of young people
inside or outside the Youth Point. The basic knowledge of the German language
would be an advantage but is not a must since the team colleagues speak English
as well. Concerning the transfer between Graz and Birkfeld it would be an
advantage if the volunteer has a driving license.
Procedure
Please send your application/CV and SPECIFIC motivation
letter until 19/12/2011 to the coordinating organisation LOGO jugendmanagement
gmbh. EVS coordinator: Christine Gantner, christine.gantner@logo.at. Please
express why you want to participate exactly in this project. Only applications
with SPECIFIC motivation letters sent to the mail adresse above will be
considered. Please don't forget to indicate the name and number of the project

ESTONYA 2011-05

Contact person: EUYA
Organisation: Estonian UNESCO Youth Association
Location: Tartu, Estonia
Deadline: 25/12/2011
Start: 01/06/2012
End: 28/02/2013
Summary of the project: The role of a volunteer within the present project is to facilitate HO in supporting and developing international media project iloveculture.eu in a host country; which means that the main area of his/her work is related to multimedia registrations of the youth activities taking place in the country. The main focus will be done on the registration of international events implemented in the frame of European programmes. HO will equip volunteer with the basic tools for this such as a camera and its additional facilities.
Tasks
Weekly volunteer will have trips (i.e. “fieldwork”) to different youth organisations and/or current youth projects in order to make multimedia reportages. Particularly, volunteer will shoot short movies, make pictures, and interview the participants of the activities/organisations. On arrival back to Tartu, volunteer will edit collected material and upload it to iloveculture.eu platform and other web resources. Apart from this, the volunteer will be involved into some other activities within the HO in order to feel as a part of its team. Moreover, volunteer will have time to develop his/her own project and preferably prepare some workshops on project-related topics (multimedia, journalism, etc.) for locals. Such kind of workshops will enable volunteer to share his/her skills and achievements acquired during the project. Practical arrangements and the timetable: In sum, volunteer’s involvement will not exceed 35 hours weekly (including language training): ~20% of that time will be spent on the fieldwork; ~40% on editing the material gathered during the trips; ~20% helping HO with its activities; ~10% on developing own project and/or leading the workshops for locals; and ~10% on language classes. Volunteer can spend the weekends at his/her will; in addition, he/she will get 2 extra-day-off each month foreseen within terms of EVS action. This proportion of the activities was designed considering volunteer’s interests: the “tripping” and “stationary” activities should be kept in balance in order to diverse volunteer’s tasks and make him/her feel comfortable.

Criteria
Profile of the potential candidate: (a) According to EVS criteria: young people aged between 18 and 30. Volunteer with fewer opportunities can participate from the age of 16. (b) According to the concrete project: a volunteer should have good socials skills, and be responsible and flexible, because his/her tasks are closely related to interpersonal communication. Due to the same reason at least a good communication level of English is required. The skills in multimedia can be considered as an advantage; however, the motivation to learn these skills is still the prime criterion. The volunteer should also be prepared to travel independently within the host county. HO appreciates creative and enterprising volunteers.

Procedure
If you feel the interest in this EVS project, please send your CV, photo, and motivation letter at euya@euya.ee before the 25th of December. The subject of your mail should be 2010-EE-46. We would also appreciate if you provide us with some video- and/or photo-material you have done so far. On the first week of January host organisation will inform all applicants about the result and contact by phone best candidates to select the only one. BEFORE APPLYING please watch the videos made by our current volunteer who does the same project as proposed:
